A factory producing hundreds of high quality, energy efficient homes has been praised by Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government Rt Hon James Brokenshire MP on a visit to the facility.
Mr Brokenshire visited the LoCaL Homes factory in the West Midlands to find out more about efforts to deliver housing using the latest manufacturing techniques. The factory is Accord’s offsite manufacturing facility utilising a panelised system to build low carbon, quality timber frame homes.
LoCaL Homes, part of Accord Housing, aims to develop at least 1,000 new homes per year from its existing factory and a state-of-the-art new facility in Walsall, which it is due to launch later this month.
Praising the high quality, low carbon housing during his visit this week (Oct 03) Mr Brokenshire said: “It was a great opportunity to be shown LoCaL Homes’ approach to building high quality affordable homes.
“It is clear the organisation is really proud of what it has achieved and the low fuel bills, interesting designs and liveability of the homes really do speak for themselves.”
Accord Housing Association Chief Executive, Dr Chris Handy, said: “We’re pleased to have the opportunity to demonstrate our delivery capability to Mr Brokenshire.
“These are exciting times for us, as we look to deliver more than 1,000 new homes a year from our factories. We have big ambitions, and support from our partners, locally and in Government. We look forward to working with them to deliver the high-quality energy efficient new housing that our communities and the country needs.”
As one of the Government’s strategic housing partners, Accord will manufacture homes to support the Matrix Partnership’s aim to deliver 4,000 new and affordable homes by March 2022.
West Midlands Mayor Andy Street said: “It was great to see LoCaL Homes in action and hear about all the innovative ways it is developing high quality affordable homes here in the West Midlands for people all over the country.”
